Welcome to Level 3 of the Management and Leadership Development Programme – the capstone level designed for experienced managers, senior leaders, and those aspiring to executive positions. This level moves beyond the operational and interpersonal focus of Levels 1 and 2 to address the strategic, governance, and transformational dimensions of leadership.

The Strategic Leader

Strategic leadership is the ability to influence others to make decisions and take actions that enhance the organisation’s long-term success and competitive advantage. Strategic leaders operate at the intersection of the organisation and its external environment, scanning for opportunities and threats, making sense of complexity, and charting a course toward a desired future.

In South Africa, strategic leadership takes on special significance. Our organisations operate in a challenging environment characterised by economic uncertainty, skills shortages, complex labour regulations, and pressing social imperatives. Strategic leaders must navigate these challenges while also addressing the country’s transformation agenda and contributing to sustainable economic development.

Your Learning Commitment

At this advanced level, self-study requires significant discipline and commitment. Each module contains substantial reading, reflective exercises, case studies, and practical application activities. We recommend dedicating at least three to four hours per module and maintaining a leadership journal throughout the programme. The capstone project at the end of the programme will require you to synthesise everything you have learned into a comprehensive personal leadership blueprint.
